In Lockdown of 2020 I started designing my own Tarot Deck.
I already had a couple of designs to take inspiration from but going from 3 designs to a full blown deck of 78 cards is a big step. I almost had a finished deck in November 2020 when I launched my Kickstarter campaign. The goal was £2000 to cover the cost for a basic deck. Within 24 hours the campaign was fully funded! I had never thought it would get funded, less likely in less than a day. I finished the designs a few days later as the numbers kept going up and up.
When the campaign finished after 30 days, it nearly 600% funded with over 250 backers and £11,471 pledged. This meant I could go all out with packaging and add a beautiful finish for the cards. The deck comes in a durable and gorgeous top and bottom box, the cards are printed on 300 gsm card and embossed with gold foil finish in the design as well as on the side of the cards. Originally I was only going to order 100 decks of Tarot cards but with the great success of the campaign I ended up ordering 500 decks with over half already sold. I put the remaining amount of cards up for pre-sale on my website. After I filmed, edited and advertised the video on social media showing the full product they started flying off the shelves.
Packaging
From the Kickstarter project there were different levels they could order from. They could get prints, one deck of cards or a luxury pack that included one deck, or two decks of cards with two prints. The luxury pack required a different type of packaging and a gift box to keep their new items safe. I wanted to create a really positive experience when they unpacked their deck and make it feel high quality. Something special and unique just for them. This included a vinyl logo on the gift box, instructions, gift box and a wrapped tarot deck.
